Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty) Columbus
If you are unhappy with the size and/or the shape of your nose, you may become dissatisfied with the way your entire face looks. Rhinoplasty from Columbus, Ohio plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Lichten can adjust the shape of your nose (including the tip and “hump”) and the tilt of the nose to better fit your face. The procedure also can correct a crooked nose and the breathing abnormalities that arise due to problems with the internal structures of your nose.
Ohio Rhinoplasty Candidates
Dr. Lichten performs rhinoplasty for adults of all ages, but it is important that the nose has fully formed before surgery. Rhinoplasty can be performed both for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. If you are not happy with the appearance of your nose and have realistic expectations about the level of improvement possible, you may be a good candidate. Also, if you are having breathing problems caused by poor airflow through the nose, this procedure can often provide relief.
The goal of surgery on the face is to achieve balance, symmetry, and harmony of all the facial features. Therefore, many people who are interested in rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons also consider chin and cheek implants to enhance the basic shape and balance of the face. Implants can serve to build a receding chin, add prominence to cheekbones, or reshape the jaw line. Implants may improve the overall proportions of facial features, boosting self-esteem and making you appear more youthful. At Central Ohio Plastic Surgery, we will discuss your concerns in detail and help you choose the best option for your specific concerns.
Dr. Lichten begins each rhinoplasty with carefully-placed incisions to access the internal structures of the nose. These incisions can be made entirely inside the nostrils (known as a “closed” rhinoplasty) or across the strip of skin between the nostrils (the “open” approach). Where the incision is placed depends largely on the area of the nose that needs to be improved. Through the incisions, Dr. Lichten is able to sculpt the bone and cartilage that supports the nose to create your desired improvement.
After the surgery is complete, the incisions are closed and the nose is protected with a splint and/or surgical dressings to support it and hold its new shape. The entire surgery takes between 1 to 2 hours in most cases. Swelling and bruising after the procedure should be expected, but discomfort is well controlled through prescription or over-the-counter medication. Most of Dr. Lichten’s Columbus rhinoplasty patients are ready to return to work or their other usual activities in about a week.
I felt totally at ease. Everyone was so nice and friendly that it was as if I had known them for a while…Probably the nicest staff I’ve ever dealt with.
