Kybella for Chin Fat Reduction

Conveniently located to serve Columbus, Lancaster, Pickerington, and Canal Winchester

How do I know if I need Kybella, CoolSculpting, liposuction or TriPollar to deal with the stubborn fat under my chin?

This question is yet another reason that it is important to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for your consultation. Because I have many tools at my disposal, I will be able to assess your specific, individual situation and formulate a treatment plan that matches with your needs, goals and financial plans. Kybella is an excellent alternative for many, while others prefer liposuction, CoolSculpting while still others can meet their goals with a series of TriPollar treatments.

Kybella ColumbusDr. Lichten is pleased to introduce KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection, used to improve the appearance and profile of a double chin.

Called “liposuction in a syringe” by a national beauty magazine, Dr. Lichten says KYBELLA is the newest option for men and women who wish to treat the fat underneath their chins.

Double chins can make people look older and heavier than they really are. When diet and exercise don’t help with what’s called submental fullness of the face, I can inject KYBELLA directly into the fatty area of the chin, and KYBELLA literally melts the fat. Results are long-lasting, much like liposuction, although with KYBELLA multiple treatments are required.”

Dr. Lichten is one of the first plastic surgeons in the state to offer FDA-approved KYBELLA. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lichten can help you decide whether KYBELLA, liposuction or another surgical procedure is your best option.

Kybella FAQ

Kybella InjectableWhat does a Kybella treatment involve?

I administer Kybella through a series of injections under the chin. Most patients do not describe them as “fun,” but they are not considered terribly painful either. It is non-surgical and I perform the procedure in the office in much the same way that I do other cosmetic injections like Botox, Juvéderm, Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Voluma.

How many treatments do I need?

For Kybella, it’s generally the rule of 2. Most patients will need 2 treatments, with 2 vials for each, 2 months apart. The number of treatments will depend upon the degree of correction that is required and how your body responds to the injections.

Will I see the results right away?

No. In fact, Kybella patients will often get a bit worse before they get better. There will likely be some swelling and bruising under your chin. If you have a special event coming up soon, I would not recommend Kybella, but I will likely have other solutions that will get you the result you want in the time frame you need.

What is my downtime?

Although there is no physical downtime for Kybella patients there will be some cosmetic downtime due to the swelling and bruising you will likely experience. You may want to schedule your injections on a Thursday or Friday so that you will have a few days before returning to work or other activity to give the swelling a chance to subside.

Does Kybella work best on men or on women?

I have seen Kybella get excellent results for both genders.

Why is it important to see a plastic surgeon for Kybella injections? Can’t any doctor do them?

Although technically true that anyone with a medical license can perform Kybella injections, it doesn’t necessarily make it a good idea. The advanced training that Board Certified Plastic Surgeons receive allows us to evaluate your issues more thoroughly and to provide alternatives that other physicians may not be trained to perform. In addition, all procedures come with risks of complications and having someone with years of training in the structure and function of the face can help reduce the risk of those complications and who is often better equipped to handle them when they occur.
